Working from home does not reduce commuting time, nor road congestion and crowded public transport. Instead, it increases commuting distance. Surprised? Only when we consider the entire system of mobility and spatial behavior, we discover the mostly negative feedback loops. The Covid-pandemic – undesired and unpleasant – was a large-scale social experiment and provided two illustrations of how the system works.
