Why is it so hard to make people shift from car and plane to public transport? An important explanation is the strong link between mobility and spatial structure. Mobility behaviour is spatial behaviour! I elaborate on this in my book chapter ‘Transport urbanisation dialectic ‘. It shows that the available means of transport determine how far apart we organize our different activities and whether we end up with urban sprawl or dense cities.
