At the Dutch National Climate Summit in October 2016, I dealt with the question: Are the ambitious Paris goals for mobility achievable? My answer is: YES WE CAN. Thirty years of policy making on transport and environment has revealed which policies do work and which illusions should not be cherished again. A Boulevard of Broken Dreams lies already behind us. The only proven effective policies are stringent standards and fiscal incentives to get clean cars on the roads and increased urbanization and density, with a large impact on mobility behavior.
